Wild Things May Come

To think how far we have come with wireless technology to mention cell phones. I think everyone would agree that like the iPod the iPhone is pushing the envelop of technology forward in gigantic leaps. It is interesting to look back a little bit to fully grasp how far, how quickly the iPhone has come.

The basic premise of a cell phone was thought of back in 1947 and startling strides were made forward:

The FCC decided to limit the amount of frequencies available in 1947, the limits made only twenty-three phone conversations possible simultaneously in the same service area - not a market incentive for research.

Can you believe it, only 23 conversations at a time - wonder how many there are now.

It wasn’t until 1973 how ever that a working model was invented and in 1975 the first patent was awarded to Dr. Martin Cooper and team.

So it has been 60 years since the first concept and over 30 years since the first working model. Now look at how far the iPhone has taken us up the technology curve as compared to the last couple years. It may not be “disruptive technology” by some people’s definitions but it sure is fun.

Well I could not think of a better way to start this blog then with a walk down memory lane. Let me know what you think as I love thinking about Moore’s law, disruptive technologies, and product chasms.
