eBay verifies that solutions created using its resources and APIs are robust and stable by putting the applications through quality assurance tests. Basically eBay takes the application in house in California and bangs on it, tries to break it, makes you fix any issues, and confirms that you have used best practices for design.

In particular for applications that allow you to bid eBay will not allow your application to place bids until you have passed this Compatible Application Check. Once you pass the check then your application can bid in production eBay.

The iPhoneMyeBay passed the Compatible Application Check on July 23rd, 2007.

For more information on the eBay Compatible Application and what must be done check out the developer.ebay.com site. The section is under Hot Links titled - Compatible Application Check.
